Cantor Katie Oringel is very excited to be joining the B'nai Israel family! Growing up in South Florida and earning her Bachelor of Arts in Music and Religion from Florida State University, this feels like a homecoming.  Cantor Oringel discovered her love for Jewish community and music during her many summers as a camper and songleader at URJ Camp Coleman.

She was ordained in 2009 by the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion in New York City where she received her Master's of Sacred Music in 2008.  Her thesis was entitled A Polyphonic Canvas: Jewish Music and the Art of Marc Chagall.

Cantor Oringel spent ten years as the cantor and youth director at Temple Sinai Congregation of Toronto in Canada.  She takes pride in her innovative programming and community building.  She developed K'hillah: A Community of B'nai Mitzvah learners, empowering new young adults as peer mentors to train the next cohort of students.  She built an in-depth travel program, Lech Lecha for youth to develop their Jewish identities and community across Canada, the United States, and Israel.  She redeveloped worship experiences to reflect the diverse ways a community prays.  She enjoys empowering all ages to raise their voices in song, prayer, and Torah.

Cantor Oringel is passionate about travel and connecting with Jewish communities world-wide.  She spent a summer with the Jewish communities of Australia and New Zealand, lead Shabbat in Bangkok, and facilitated Passover seders in Russia.  She has performed in Japan, Israel, and some of the great halls in New York City.

Cantor Oringel enjoys board games, running, reading, and boating.  She is an avid needlepointer and a fan of Broadway musicals.
